The So-Called Acne Diet
Written by: Danny Walton
Eating on the Acne Diet
Someone suffering from acne may be familiar with the term acne diet. There are many myths and legends floating around about foods that supposedly cause acne that have seen been debunked, yet still exist. Chocolate was stuck on the witch hunt list for quite some time before scientists finally proved those thoughts to be wrong. The same went for other greasy junk foods such as pizza and potato chips. The idea was that oily begot oily, hence the oily face and blemished skin. The result was the rise of acne diets, one example is where a person ate nothing but fruit and drank only water, swearing off all caffeine, sugar, and other processed foods. Almost, but that isn't going to cut the mustard.
The Real Acne Diet
However, though greasy foods are off the hook for directly causing acne, people who continuously eat junk food won't see any improvement in their skin. This isn't because the junk food is causing the acne, but more because the body and skin has failed to receive necessary vitamins and minerals to maintain health and vitality. While an all fruit diet or other over-the-top diet may help give you back a lot of vitamins and healthy nutrients, you still aren't getting the full serving of foods your body needs. If you are going to eat healthy, you shouldn't just focus on fixing one small part of your body, but instead on the whole picture. Create a balanced diet that includes proteins, dairy, vegetables, fruits, and grains. It is perfectly okay to throw in a few junk items in order to keep yourself happy. When you get a balanced diet together, your entire body improves in both function and strength. Your skin will benefit from strengthened organs, receiving more blood filled with healthy vitamins, and you will see an improvement in your skin itself as old skin sloughs off and new skin emerges. The results will be pleasing.
What to Look For
Are there any particular vitamins or minerals to look for? The answer to that is yes, the skin does respond well to certain vitamins. Vitamins A, B, C, and E. E has shown to be particularly helpful to skin, which is why you may spot lotions with labels that boast Vitamin E ingredients. Overall, with a little exercise and smart eating you should see an improvement in both your skin as well as your attitude. Having a healthy acne diet alone won't cure your acne, but it will improve your skin and give your medications extra help when it comes to battling the blemishes.
